An important issue in everyone's life today is increasing fuel costs. (Do not be fooled by the current low prices.'ll Soon be due to limitations in oil production.) higher oil prices are connected to peak oil and gas production, the wars for limited resources and climate change. These problems are a consequence of our excessive consumption and reliance on nonrenewable energy. These problems will not disappear in the short term. The severity and extent of these problems requires a total effort for sustainable solutions, began as soon as possible.

We do not have to devastate the planet to build, heat and cool our homes and workplaces. Good building design can greatly reduce energy problems. With dozens of simple and well proven solutions in the hand, most of which are completely painless to implement, makes one wonder why more is not being done.

Then sample is a simple cost solutions, effective, low to build more efficient structures. (Do a search on Google for more information in depth.)

Free energy from the sun: passive solar design for natural lighting and heating (use proper building orientation, the appropriate amount of glazing, window placement, size of roof overhang, etc.), solar hot water, wall ovens solar photovoltaic panels (for consider buying one at a time, as finances permit).

Houses Superinsulated: highly insulated walls, ceilings, floors and foundations, houses earthbag bullet or straw, energy-efficient windows, window coverings refrigerator, blinds, insulated doors, insulated lines of hot water; weathersealing (see target = "_blank"> www.grisb.org/publications/pub4.doc for a case study).

Energy equipment and accessories: electrical Energy Star compact fluorescent light bulbs, tankless heating hot water demand, efficient energy systems for heating, reverse (clockwise) thermostats, gas stoves with electronic ignition, the fans, including whole house fans, air to air exchangers.

Energy Designs efficient house: building more efficient ways (roundabouts, hexagonal, octagonal domes, vaults); better site selection, appropriate level of thermal mass in the on-insulator (mass floors and interior walls, plaster, made in banks); berming earth cool pantry, attached greenhouses; night ventilation open layout where appropriate, to improve air circulation, open design and light-colored walls and ceilings to improve lighting natural, efficient use of space, low embodied energy construction materials (use of locally available, minimally processed, natural materials), the characteristics multiple use, cross ventilation, natural convention, lower ceilings in cold climates, cold weather sleeping lofts, light-colored roofs in climates warm roof vents, privacy walls to block the wind, planting trees and plants for shade and to block the wind, outdoor space; xeriscaping.

Lifestyle changes: conservation (putting on a sweater and turn the thermostat slightly, closing unused rooms, turn off computers at night etc.), building no bigger than what you need, minimizing the number of aircraft and artifacts, co-housing.

Appropriate technology: small scale, the point of using renewable energy systems like wind or micro hydro generators, water catchment, composting toilets, gray / water systems black.
