Light Adjustable

How can I tell if an electrical power source is based, without having to separate?

I have an overhead light source with a POS. and Neg. lead, but I see no reason - just a 1 / 4 "finger adjustable metal canopy.'d have to start the roof to see farther in the arrangement of wiring.

The metal case should be grounded either with a 3rd wire or metal cable ca ... which uses the metal cable outer sheath as a ground source ... To check that have a volt meter ... put in 110 volts AC, with a driver goes to food hot or black wire,,,, and the meter lead OTHER put in the Metalbox .... if it reads 100 volts then the picture is a grounding conductor
